Why we Collect Data.
We collect and process data for the sake of providing our customers with the best possible lending experience and optimizing the scope of our services in terms of order, delivery and payment.
Furthermore your data are collected to maintain your personal customer database and the contents connected with it.
 
The Data we Collect and Process.
Surfing our website without being logged in, no personal data are collected. A so-called session-cookie is stored which helps to identify information such as IP-address, time and duration of your visit, operating system, browser and page impressions.
In case you set up a customer account, we also collect the data that are necessary to identify you and request authorization from your library.  
 
Your Data and Third Parties.
No data is forwarded to any third party, nor is any third party granted access to your data.
Yet we can be forced to disclose your data due to legal provisions or legal procedures. Except for that we can also disclose your data in case of public interest, which is the case for detected abuse or credit card fraud. 
 
How we Protect Your Data.
Where ever personal data are entered across all our websites, we use industry standard SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) to encrypt your data. With SSL-encryption employed before being transmitted to our servers, your data are transformed in a way which makes it impossible for a third party to reconstruct them. 
 
Use of Cookies.
We use "temporary" cookies: Temporary cookies help us to follow your click path on our site to carry out the following processes: search, selection, order and payment. Temporary cookies are deleted thirty minutes after your latest action on our site.
We use "permanent" cookies: They remain on your computer to simplify lending-services during your next visits. Permanent cookies can for example retain what you selected for lending. These cookies can be manually deleted by the user. 
 
Digital Rights Management
All the eBooks offered for lending are encrypted with DRM-technology by Adobe Systems Inc. Using this protected contents an Adobe customer account (Adobe-ID) is required. This account must either be set up on Adobe's website or must be generated after installing "Adobe Digital Editions" (or an equivalent application). The customer data and consent required therefor fall to the sole responsibility of Adobe Systems Inc. ciando GmbH does not transmit any personal information to Adobe.
 
Questions about Privacy Protection / Objection to Data Usage
According to the Federal Data Protection Act you have a right to obtain information as to your stored data and a right to have these data corrected, blocked and deleted.
